It's in the stars.

Or wherever. I don't know. Did the work interview today. Five hours of weighing and filling kale salad into little shells. Layering the marinated eggplant onto sheets for the "bacon", cleaning dishes and being surrounded by nice people in a f*cking vegan food production kitchen. I really want this job. But well, four other people probably do, too, and I can't help but wait for them to make their decision and call me back by the beginning of next week.

Sunday

I ate lots of blueberries today.
I put a spice rack to the kitchen wall.
I got a bunch of food from food church. Awesome.
Pitiful looking dogs are awesome, too. Right?
And on wednesday I'll have a work interview and might end up with a job at a raw vegan "food makery".. I'm so excited!

The chaos vs. me

Exterminated the chaos in our "arts room". It's a small chamber that we were planning on using for projects, as a work space... and lately as a chaos chamber. Yes. Since we moved in it was nothing but a mess. We worked in there already. Made paper maché moons. But most of the space on the counter was full with stuff: tools, dirt and paper, leftovers from making those moons and things that didn't have a place elsewhere.
Since I started working again on something more puppety a couple of days ago I felt like this should change. I need clean workspaces. Though I can mess things up pretty badly when I'm working on a project I need to put things in order every once in a while. And so I did.
Put tools in the drawer. Hanged the moons to the ceiling. Organized materials. Threw stuff away. Cleaned the surface. Improvised a little shelf thing.
Satisfied I am with the outcome. And went on with my project.

maia bambul and colony collaps

The show on sunday went well. Actually it went more than that, I really enjoyed playing. Sisto joined me for this set to do the sounds. I think it was great! It was the first time that he offered me to do the sounds for this particular project.  - We once played together in Offenbach but for this occasion I didn't use an overhead projector but just a strong light, lenses and a few objects. -
Since I knew that he would be doing different stuff than the music that I'm used to work with I prepared  a new set of material. I started off with a black screen and frames. With series and patterns. And I tried to be more minimalist and more about structures than about stories. I really liked the outcome. And it seems the audience did enjoy it, too. Hope this wasn't the only occasion for this collaboration.

The camera was in a bad angle and cut off half of the wall,
but here's a little video if you want to get an idea of how it looked like.
I think it's annoying that there's no UNSALTED vegan margarine.
I think it's not ok that kids in school are fed with crap like uncrustables. This is real. Bullshit.
I think it's not ok if the city just closes down schools.
And I think humans just should not kill other animals to eat them and digest them. You are what you eat. http://earthlings.com/?page_id=32

iced streets

This morning when I woke up everything was white and dusty outside of my window. The city was dressed in a dense light fog and frost had put a nice white glaze onto everything.
I rode my bike to the farmers market and witnessed the calm beauty of houses, trees, yards and alleys. Even my coat as I was riding started to get it's own white finish.
A perfect winter morning.

Auto talk

Spent the whole day pouring fluids into our radiator, letting the van idle for 20-30 minutes, waiting for the motor to cool down again, draining fluids and restarting again.
I hate that car.
I don't.
I got friends with it. But it's not the most reliable friend as yall know...
I'm tired.

falling, white and icy

There was a little snow today. It sprinkled a thin white coating onto the stems of those big old trees in the park. It hurt my face when I was riding my bike. Now there's rain again. It's Portland, right?

Thoughts

I'm in the States for more than a half year now. I actually have been here for seven and a half months. That's pretty much the time until I'm going to be back in germany for my first visit since we left.
Weird.
I'm really looking forward towards it. It's not, that I really miss germany. But I do miss my family. And I would love to see some friends again. So I'm starting to look for flights and this makes it feel so soon. I just moved here.
Time flies by.

Trouble

We have internet at the house now.

And just as I'm writing this there's big time trouble going on, because one of the dogs ate chocolate cake and a f*cking tampon. I don't really know which one is worse since dogs can get really sick from chocolate and a tampon might just find a way through her system because she's not small. But anyways, that sucks!

Edit: Alright. She threw it all up. I'm just so relieved she doesn't have to go to the vet or worse things to happen to her..

It's a new year, right?

We've had sun for three days in a row. It's cold and beautiful.

Today I made the first two recipes from the ethiopian cooking zine.. that one. niter kibbeh. seems you need it for anything if you want to cook ethiopian, so i just made it. And split pea puree.
I didn't yet eat it because I already had a sandwich with yummy crunchy fried tempeh, kale and sauerkraut. Our first batch of homemade sauerkraut! How awesome is that, right? And it was so easy. Just a little smelly. But it's so good and it's raw and healthy and cheap. (And I highly encourage everyone to try it!)
I'm back into doing nice things homey.

And I finished painting my drawer! It's in my room and it collects all my clothes. No piles on the floor any more. I'm so happy. Laying in bed last night I listened to an audio book and just enjoyed the peacefulness of my tidy space.

Today the electrician got me a new power outlet that's actually grounded. Most of the outlets in our home and most of the power lines, too, are not. It's kind of scary. But that seems to be quite normal here. Patchwork houses. Crappy insulation. Half-done things fixed by fake craftsmen. However. I'm glad I got it.

What else?
I love the alleys!
(Have to tell you more about them another time. Remind me if I don't.)
